SINGAPORE – OCBC Bank customers will now experience face verification when checking account balances. This is available at selected ATM outlets in Singapore starting this Friday (March 19).
In an announcement (March 18), OCBC Bank introduced its facial biometrics for its ATM services, the first in South East Asia. The said feature makes way to eliminate the use of ATM cards that may be stolen or skimmed.
By enabling its facial verification for ATM services, OCBC bank customers can use it for balance inquiries. This is available to 8 selected ATMs around Singapore.
Are you an OCBC bank customer and forgot your ATM cards? Good news! You may now experience the first face verification for ATMs in South East Asia. Facial verification can be experienced in eight locations. The first one is on OCBC Tampines Centre Two, then in Taman Jurong Shopping Centre. You may also go to Great Eastern, Pickering Street. The new feature is also available on ATMs at OCBC Tampines Centre One and OCBC campus. Also, it will include 103 Yishun Ring Road and within the Geylang Road 7-Eleven.
To use the said feature, customers will need to enter first their NRIC number in the selected OCBC ATM. Then, they will need to face the camera within the ATM screen. The installed web camera will then scan the image of a specific customer. In real-time, it will verify against the data within the national biometric database. This is where the OCBC Bank ATM networked was digitally linked. After a successful face verification, the customer can now proceed to balance inquiry.
Based on OCBC data, balance inquiry and cash withdrawals are among their most used ATM transactions. To provide further convenience by extending its facial verification up to cash withdrawals. Available in all its ATMs around Singapore from June. Next year, it will expand its face biometrics up to other ATM transactions. It includes cash deposits, fund transfers, cash card top-ups up to paying your credit card bills.
OCBC Bank has mentioned its move towards digital banking, but, recent data shows that ATM withdrawals are still high. It has over two million transactions per month. The rollout allows face verification to provide convenience. As it embraces facial verification, it helps customers to forget about the PIN numbers. There’s no need to remember many log-ins or PINs.
It is among the first banks to tap the government system. Working with the National Digital Identity (NDI) on its infrastructure. Also, it uses SingPass Face Verification. Loaded with security features, it can help in fraud prevention and liveness-detection. Also, facial verification can able to detect unusual activity or inappropriate ones. It can spot the use of video, photographs, or even wearing the mask while undergoing a face verification
